Fans created a ruckus on the streets of Italy following the defeat to hosts England in the final of Euro 2020 against Italy in order of celebration. After the Euro Cup final, the London Metropolitan Riot Police were brought in to stop the fury of fans. Hundreds of police officers were roped in on the way to clear the crowd. Riot police also appeared in London’s Piccadilly Circus and Leicester Square, where football supporters mounted lamps and many people climbed onto the roofs of buses.
In fact, Italy won the Euro Cup 2020 title by defeating England 3-2 in a penalty shootout. It was only after Italy won the title match that the fans created an uproar. The Metropolitan Police tweeted: “We conducted a police operation as the Euro 2020 finals neared. Thank you to the thousands of fans who behaved responsibly. We have arrested 49 people for breaking the rules.”
In another tweet, he said, “19 of our officers have been injured due to crowd handling. This is completely unacceptable. Thank you to all our officers in London who contributed to keeping the city safe all night.” After the match, there was chaos at Wembley Stadium. Footage showed fans trying to break through barricades and enter the stadium.
A stadium spokesperson issued a statement saying, “A small group violated security at the stadium. We are now working closely with stadium managers and security personnel to remove these people.” It is also being told that even before the start of the match, the spectators tried to enter the stadium. If the fans were not allowed without tickets, then a situation of chaos had arisen even at that time, but it was handled by the security personnel.
