West Ham considering move for 2 players from Man United. After selling Declan Rice to Arsenal for £105 million, West Ham United is considering bids for Manchester United’s Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay, according to Sky Sports.
The Hammers haven’t added anyone to their roster this summer despite winning the UEFA Europa Conference League last season. However, after selling Rice to Arsenal for £100 million plus $5 million in add-ons, they are anticipated to speed up their hiring procedure in the near future.
West Ham’s primary priority is finding a successor for Rice, and they have a number of candidates in mind. The aforementioned source claims that McTominay, a midfielder for Manchester United, is one of the candidates being considered at the London Stadium.
If the rumors are to be accepted, McTominay, 26, has been on West Ham’s radar for quite some time. The Scotland international might be drawn in by the chance to work with fellow countryman David Moyes and succeed Rice at the London-based club.
For their part, the Red Devils, whose contract with McTominay extends through 2025, are not actively looking to trade him. But if they get a good offer, they might think about moving the defensive midfielder, according to writer Samuel Luckhurst (h/t @utdreport on Twitter).
Meanwhile, West Ham is also looking for a new central defender, and Maguire has surfaced as a contender. According to the report, they are thinking about hiring the England international either permanently or on a loan.
Maguire, 30, has lost his place in the starting lineup at Old Trafford under manager Erik Ten Hag, and his future there is questionable. In all competitions last season, he was limited to just 16 starts. Prior to the 2023–24 season, Manchester United is eager to transfer the defender, but they are still demanding £50 million.
The Hammers are unlikely to sign Maguire and McTominay at all costs despite their interest because they have other options. It has been suggested that Denis Zakaria from Juventus, James Ward-Prowse from Southampton, Edson Alvarez from Ajax, and Joao Palhinha from Fulham might take Rice’s spot at Arsenal.
To strengthen their defense, Moyes’ team is reportedly considering deals for Perr Schuurs of Torino, Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen, and Luiz Felipe of Real Betis.
Manchester United wanted to sign Arsenal’s William Saliba before he signed a new deal:
Mason Mount was just acquired by Manchester United from Chelsea for £60 million, making him their first signing of the summer. They are currently focusing on acquiring a custodian and a striker. Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta is the Red Devils’ top attacking target, and they are confident about signing Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
The Premier League powerhouses were searching for a new central defender before turning their attention to fortifying those two positions. Kim Min-jae piqued their interest before he joined Bayern Munich. Similar to William Saliba of Arsenal, they were interested in him before he committed to the Gunners on a new long-term contract.
Arsenal only won five of their final 11 games after Saliba’s injury because he was so crucial to their attempt to win the Premier League title last season. Near the close of the season, there were concerns regarding the defender’s future at the Emirates Stadium because his current contract was set to expire the following year.
If Saliba refused to sign a new contract, a number of teams were interested in wooing him away from the north London powerhouses, including Manchester United. The France international did, however, finally sign a new five-year deal with Arsenal.
