Steven Gerrard is 4th highest-paid manager. The Sun (via Daily Mail) reports that former Liverpool player Steven Gerrard now earns a staggering £15.2 million per year at Saudi Arabian football team Al-Ettifaq.
This solidifies a three-year agreement between the Saudi Pro League football team and the former manager of Aston Villa. According to The Sun, he is now the fourth-highest-paid manager, behind three tacticians.
In the world of football, the Middle East is currently experiencing a new era as Saudi clubs draw a diverse group of esteemed European players and managers. Gerrard, who is currently one of these desired superstars, follows in the footsteps of Cristiano Ronaldo, who in January signed a £172 million per year contract with a Saudi club.
Following his tenures in Scotland and England, Gerrard had briefly put his managerial hat on, but the £300k per week offer from Al-Ettifaq was too alluring to pass up.
His earnings are only less than those of Premier League heavyweights Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, at £16 million, and Pep Guardiola, the manager of Manchester City, at £20 million. Diego Simeone of Atletico Madrid stands out from the rest thanks to his astounding £30 million yearly salary.
With his managerial prowess, Steven Gerrard is poised to dominate the Saudi Pro League:
Steven Gerrard will enter the Arabian pitch hoping to improve his managerial reputation while attempting to put his disastrous time at Aston Villa behind him. The opportunity to end Al-Ettifaq’s 36-year title drought will also be available to him, although doing so will necessitate deposing the current champions, Al-Ittihad. They have acquired 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema, so it won’t be simple.
He left Aston Villa in the 2022–23 season following a less-than-stellar start that included just two victories in the first 12 games. Under the leadership of former Arsenal manager Unai Emery, the Premier League team eventually recovered to finish seventh, securing a spot in the Europa Conference League.
In his comments regarding his migration to the Middle East, Steven Gerrard expressed a sense of familial warmth from Al-Ettifaq and emphasized the importance of his family’s well-being. He told Daily Mail that he “got a real family feeling” and that it was crucial that the decision be “right for my family first and foremost.”
The Liverpool legend further added: “The football project, in my opinion, needs to be ambitious, it needs to be done for the right reasons, and then, of course, you need to feel secure in the contract, but this comes at the very end.”
Jordan Henderson, the captain of Liverpool, is the focus of Al-Ettifaq’s recruitment drive, and the club may make a staggering £700k per week contract offer to him. Henderson enters the list of desired stars in the Saudi Pro League’s summer hiring plan, despite no formal offer having yet been made. Another player targeted by Al-Ettifaq is the winger Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace.
