Franck Kessie will leave the club post one season. After only one season at Camp Nou, Franck Kessie, a midfielder for Barcelona, has decided to leave the team.
After speaking on the phone with manager Xavi, Spanish journalist Gerard Romero claims that Kessie has decided to quit the Blaugrana this summer. After his contract with AC Milan expired, the Ivorian only recently joined the team on a free transfer last summer.
Kessie signed a four-year contract with Barcelona, but he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in 2016. Only 16 of the 43 games in all competitions that he started saw him score three goals and provide an equal number of assists.
The 26-year-old has never really looked to fit into Xavi’s brand of game at Camp Nou. He now appears to be leaving, with reports of interest from Atletico Madrid and the Saudi superpowers Al-Ahli and Al-Nassr.
Recently, Barcelona president Joan Laporta acknowledged that Kessie might leave: “We don’t have any formal information yet, but we will respect his decision if he chooses to go. He can be tremendously helpful to us if he remains.”
Romero claims that while Kessie is grateful to Barca, he has come to terms with the fact that he will be leaving this summer. Many players are anticipated to leave the Blaugrana this summer due to their financial difficulties. Similarly, Clement Lenglet appears to be planning to quit.
Barcelona eyeing move for Girona’s Oriol Romeu:
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona has shortlisted Girona midfielder Oriol Romeu for the summer. To strengthen his midfield, manager Xavi has identified the Spaniard as a major target for the Blaugrana.
According to reports, Romeu and Blanquivermells have a deal in place that would let him depart if they received an offer from a more powerful team. The 31-year-old, who scored twice in 36 games across competitions, was crucial to Michel Sanchez’s team last season.
After 15 seasons with the club, Sergio Busquets left and must yet be replaced by Barcelona. Romeu started his professional career in Barcelona’s La Masia academy before joining Chelsea in the Premier League in 2011. He might make a good Busquets stand-in.
Romeu has also played for Southampton, Valencia, and VfB Stuttgart at various times. He has a track record of success, which might be an asset for Xavi as he seeks to build on his La Liga championship-winning performance.
Given the Blaugrana’s financial predicament, Transfermarkt values the Spaniard at €5 million, which would be a good piece of business. At Estadi Montilivi, he still has two years left on his contract.
