Jose Mourinho is being considered for a managerial position. Jose Mourinho should be Chelsea’s third manager, it has been suggested. According to Richard Keys, the Portuguese boss will be the most beneficial to the team at Stamford Bridge.
On April 2, only a few months after being named the head coach of the West London team, Graham Potter was fired. The club is reportedly in contact with several managers as they search for a replacement shortly.
According to reports, Mourinho is not on that list, but Keys thinks the former Chelsea boss ought to be included. What a mess the government-appointed owner of Chelsea, Todd Boehly, has made at The Bridge, he wrote in his journal earlier this week. Potter’s dismissal was long overdue and unavoidable. Sacking him is not an error; Tuchel’s dismissal was. Although I really wanted Potter to succeed, it has been clear for weeks that he was ill-prepared. He must be as relieved as he is wealthy this morning. What other industry offers such benefits for failure as football? It’s insane.
“Potter will return, perhaps to a city like Leicester,” Keys continued. “Or perhaps Southampton, as I proposed a few weeks back. Chelsea seems to want to take their time hiring a new boss. Is that a result of their willingness to wait for Mourinho? Don’t rule it out if they wait until the conclusion of the season to make a decision. He wouldn’t leave Roma right now, but if he secures a spot in the CL and a title, he might. He lives in Chelsea.”
With AS Roma currently holding the fifth spot in the Serie A standings, Mourinho has been successful there. Mourinho managed 320 games for Chelsea during his two terms as manager, winning 204 of them.
Thomas Tuchel was replaced earlier this season by Graham Potter after the club’s new owners determined that the German was not the best choice to serve as manager.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion manager was fired by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali following a run of subpar games that saw the team decline to 11th place in the standings.
“On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea,” read the statement that was put on the team’s website. Graham is a coach and a person for whom we have the utmost regard. We are all disappointed in the result because he has always acted with professionalism and integrity.
On Tuesday, April 4, Liverpool held Chelsea to a scoreless stalemate at home in the first game following Potter’s dismissal.
