Messi vs Ronaldo similarities in Mbappe vs Haaland. Erling Haaland acknowledges that the discussion between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has been “good,” but he is hesitant to engage in a competition of his own with Kylian Mbappe. A new generation of talent is prepared to overthrow the two legendary athletes with 12 Ballons d’Or between them as they approach the end of their historic playing careers. Messi, who won the World Cup with Argentina, and Portuguese legend Ronaldo have wowed viewers with their extraordinary feats. Still, current Manchester City striker Haaland sees no reason to get involved in a similar sporting rivalry with PSG forward Mbappe.
When asked if he could be a part of football’s next great rivalry as he competes against a France international for the most prestigious team and individual awards, Haaland responded to Viaplay: “I am unable to tell. I wouldn’t say I like making comparisons with other people. I don’t want to compare or anything since I believe you should be your own player in that regard. For the past ten years, I believe that Ronaldo and Messi have been pushed by the media, and I also believe that they have been pushing one another. It has, in my opinion, been beneficial. Madrid and Barcelona are competing. It’s been the ideal competition. To be honest, I don’t give it much thought.”
In the 2022–23 season, Haaland and Mbappe have been outstanding for their respective clubs, with the former scoring 23 goals in 18 games for City and the latter scoring 19 in 20 for PSG. Mbappe won the Golden Boot award at the 2022 World Cup for his efforts, which included a hat trick against Argentina in the tournament’s championship match. He has already returned to PSG training while top clubs in Europe, including Premier League champions City, get ready to resume domestic play.
