Barcelona to sign ex-Real Madrid Midfielder Dani Parejo. Former Real Madrid midfielder Dani Parejo has received a signing offer from Barcelona. The Catalan team considers him a potential Sergio Busquets replacement since he left for Inter Miami.
According to Spanish journalist Gerard Romero, Parejo has a one-year deal with the possibility of an extension. His Villarreal contract contains a provision that would allow him to depart the team without penalty this summer.
Before being moved to Getafe in 2009, he had only appeared in five games for Real Madrid and had been on loan to Queens Park Rangers. The defensive midfielder has replaced other potential targets that were eliminated for a variety of reasons as the top target.
Although Martin Zubimendi and Joshua Kimmich were said to be Barcelona’s top targets, the club cannot afford their respective transfer fees. The release clause for the Spaniard is €60 million, whereas Bayern Munich turned down offers for the German.
Xavi was also interested in Marcelo Brozovic, but the Inter Milan player is reportedly moving to Saudi Arabia. Al Nassr is in negotiations and has proposed a €20 million contract for the midfielder each season.
Barcelona must bring in a defensive midfielder, according to Xavi:
To replace Sergio Busquets, Xavi has been adamant that Barcelona should recruit a midfielder this summer. He asserted that the academy does not have any players with the necessary profiles and that he is therefore dependent on the market.
He stated (via SPORT) to the media: “To replace Busquets, choose whoever is the most complete and best pivot. Fair play and the state of the economy are important to us. The ideal candidate must be very decisive, powerful enough to win duels, intelligent, and technically proficient. That stands in as Busi’s natural replacement.”
He added: “There have been several, indeed. Oriol Romeu, Samper? Yaya Toure, a fantastic player, was forced to quit. Busquets never suffering an injury has been a blessing for us. The players ultimately realize they must depart. We’re not sure if we have a replacement at home, so it’s time to find one.”
Xavi went on: “If we want to compete next year, we need to locate that element. It is essential. This year, Busi has been crucial. To compete in the upcoming season, we must identify a very significant player. Barcelona is reportedly interested in Oriol Romeu and is willing to bring the La Masia alum back. According to MARCA, he is available for €10 million.”
