Chelsea rejects Manchester United’s offer for Mason Mount. According to reports, Chelsea rejected Manchester United’s opening offer for midfielder Mason Mount.
The Blues reportedly turned down a £40 million offer from the Red Devils, according to The Telegraph. Despite this, Erik ten Hag’s team is sure that Mount won’t resume contract negotiations with the West London team.
Mount’s contract at Stamford Bridge has one year left, and he has rejected two chances to extend it. The 24-year-old’s departure has looked more imminent, and Manchester United has emerged as the front-runner to sign him.
However, Mount is valued very differently by the two Premier League powerhouses. The England international has a price tag of £70 million, and Chelsea must decide whether to sell him because his contract expires the next year.
Mauricio Pochettino, the newly appointed Blues manager, is eager to retain Mount. His position on whether to cash in on him or let him finish out his contract is unknown, though.
Mount has slipped down the Stamford Bridge hierarchy as a result of his poor play this year. In 35 games across different leagues, he registered three goals and six assists.
With Chelsea, the English midfielder has won the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Champions League. Although he has supported the team since he was a youngster, he appears to be moving away.
After Chelsea loses interest, Manchester United might have a free hand to pursue Andre Onana of Inter Milan:
Andre Onana might be the subject of a move by Manchester United. According to rumors, Chelsea has no interest in acquiring Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
According to Sky Sports, Pochettino will reportedly make Kepa Arrizabalaga his first-choice shot-stopper for the upcoming campaign. Onana and Robert Sanchez of Brighton & Hove Albion were mentioned in connection with the Blues. They allegedly aren’t interested in any of those goalkeepers, though.
This opens the door for Manchester United to perhaps make a move for the Cameroonian custodian. In light of the uncertainty surrounding David de Gea’s future, Ten Hag is eager to hire a new custodian this summer. At the end of this month, the Spaniard’s contract at Old Trafford will expire.
Despite taking home the Golden Glove in the Premier League, De Gea struggled with form this year. He committed some egregious errors, including one that cost Manchester City the FA Cup by a score of 2-1.
Ten Hag is fully aware of Onana’s strengths because he taught him while he was in charge of Ajax in the Eredivisie. One of the best ball players and shot-stoppers in European football is the Inter custodian. He stood out, especially during the Nerazzurri’s 1-0 Champions League final loss to City.
This season, the 27-year-old made 41 appearances in all competitions while recording 19 shutouts. According to The Times, Onana is valued at £50 million by Inter, and United reportedly made an offer to acquire him in April.
