Man United in race with Barcelona for Sofyan Amrabat. According to reports, Manchester United is getting ready to join the competition to sign Sofyan Amrabat of Fiorentina, who is wanted by Barcelona.
The Moroccan team led by Walid Regragui finished fourth at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup thanks in large part to the defensive midfielder. He also ranks among Fiorentina’s key players, having made 107 appearances over the previous three seasons.
Amrabat appears to be leaving La Viola this summer to work on a new endeavor. Manchester United has put its name in the hat for the 26-year-old’s services, according to journalist Sara Meini (h/t Fichajes.net).
Amrabat’s contract expires in 2024, and it is rumored that Atletico Madrid and Barcelona are interested in him. He is valued at €30 million by Fiorentina, and it is unclear if cash-strapped Barca would be willing to pay that amount.
This summer, they were compelled to develop a workable plan in order to demonstrate their financial stability in La Liga. The league has authorized the proposal, according to Gerard Romero (h/t BarcaBlaugranes), thus Barca may begin to organize their finances for the upcoming season.
That does not, however, imply that they can sign any player. If they can set aside enough money to sign Amrabat before Atletico Madrid and Manchester United, only time will tell.
Manchester United target wants to play in Spain amid Barcelona interest:
Nordin Amrabat, Sofyan Amrabat’s brother, recently stated in an interview that the Fiorentina midfielder desires to compete at the highest level.
In response to rumors that West Ham United was interested in signing his brother, Nordin told ESPN (via MoroccoWorldNews): “Sofyan going to West Ham? No, he aspires to the top and longs to represent Spain. He is a top candidate for Barcelona, but you are aware of Barca’s financial difficulties.”
Sofyan Amrabat acknowledged his respect for Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid playing philosophy. According to Marca, the defensive midfielder stated in January: “What Simeone does and what he has accomplished He spent many years as Atletico de Madrid’s coach. His playing is my favorite. His team has physically powerful and aggressive athletes. This is how I like to play.”
The Manchester United-targeted Fiorentina midfielder did not completely rule out a move to the Premier League either.
He said (through Daily Mail) the following prior to his team’s defeat to West Ham United in the UEFA Europa Conference League final: “The Premier League is undoubtedly a terrific league and one of the best in the world. Naturally, the intensity is really great in England, therefore I believe it would suit me.”
