Martin Skrtel heaps praises on Liverpool star. Martin Skrtel, a legendary player for Liverpool, has spoken of his respect for Reds defender Ibrahima Konate, who the Slovak believes will be crucial for the team’s future. For £36 million in 2021, Konate transferred from German side RB Leipzig to the Premier League’s biggest clubs. Since then, he has played for the club in 43 games and contributed to four goals.
The back has been strong for Liverpool whenever he has played despite injuries impeding his development. In his first season, he made a notable contribution to the club’s EFL Cup and FA Cup victories. Konate, who is only 23 years old, is anticipated to play a significant role for the Reds in the years to come. The central defense has also represented France seven times at the international level.
Skrtel has predicted that Konate, who has impressed him, will play a major role for Liverpool for a prolonged period of time. The former Anfield favorite also expressed his satisfaction at the Merseyside club’s decision to acquire the Parisian over Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano.
We played Leipzig when I was playing in Turkey a few years back, and at the time, everyone was talking about this player named Dayot Upamecano, according to Skrtel, who spoke to The Athletic. “The other center-back Leipzig has is even better. I informed my buddy. When Liverpool hired him, I was overjoyed. Konate is such a talented athlete. He has excellent ball skills, is physically strong, and appears to be mentally strong as well. He is still young and will be crucial to the success of the club.”
With injuries severely restricting his participation, Konate has played only 1180 minutes for the Reds this season.
While Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have had a difficult season with their form, Joel Matip is approaching his 30th birthday. All of this, along with Konate’s injury issues, has raised rumors that Jurgen Klopp’s team might be looking to add a new central defense this summer.
When asked who he would like to see the Liverpool team sign, Skrtel suggested Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan. The retired defender acknowledged that his countryman was probably headed to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on a free transfer, stating: “If you asked me to select one other excellent center-back, it would be the Slovakian Milan Skriniar. He is unfortunately not accessible because he has already decided to transfer from Inter to PSG, but if he were, he would be fantastic for Liverpool.”
Skriniar appears to be unavailable, so it is unclear who the English titans will aim for.
