Ramon Calderon denies the racism incident of Vinicius Jr. Ramon Calderon, a former president of Real Madrid, believes that Vinicius Jr. of the Los Blancos’ experiences should not be used to characterize La Liga as a racist league.
When Madrid lost 1-0 to Valencia in La Liga on Sunday (May 21), Vinicius was the target of racial insults from the crowd. Throughout his stay in Spain, the attacker frequently found himself on the receiving end of such criticism.
Outraged by the event, the Brazil international asserted that racists now own the league where players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, and Ronaldinho formerly competed. However, Calderon has denied the Los Blancos star’s assertion, claiming that these situations are unavoidable.
According to Calderon on the Argentine radio program Super Deportivo Radio (via Infobae), “These are isolated situations.”
“Spain is not a racist nation, as anyone who has visited can attest. These tragic incidents do not speak well of Spanish football. Because any coward can use these slurs, these circumstances are unmanageable.”
Vinicius would soon regret his remarks, the former Real Madrid president continued, as he uttered them in the heat of the moment.
“Vinicius made his comments during a challenging time and a heated occasion,” according to Calderon.
“I believe he will regret what he said in a few days. I disagree with the assertion that racists now own the league, which once belonged to Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, and company. Due to the fact that these lone, violent individuals do not represent Spanish football, the Spanish League is not racist.”
Vinicius was famously dismissed during the game’s injury period following a brawl. The red card was later overturned by La Liga, though.
According to former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon, Vinicius Jr. will soon win the Ballon d’Or.
Vinicius Jr. is alleged to have become agitated due to ongoing racial taunts from opposition fans in Spain. According to some speculation, the attacker might make a threat to quit Real Madrid as a result.
Ramon Calderon believes that after the Brazilian has calmed down, he will reconsider. The winger won’t quit due to racial abuse, the former president of Los Blancos continued.
The aforementioned source cited Calderon as adding, “Vinicius Jr felt harassed, belittled and he made heated statements.”
“I don’t believe he considers leaving Real Madrid; his absence would be incredibly difficult for us. It is desired by the public, and everyone is happy. The idea that this incident has caused him to consider quitting is absurd.”
Despite recent reports, Calderon is positive Vinicius will remain at Real Madrid. The 22-year-old was also predicted by the Spaniard to win the Ballon d’Or soon.
The Spaniard assured that Vinicius Jr. will remain.
“Leaving the club in light of what transpired is absurd. I have no doubt that he will be successful at Real Madrid for a very long time and that he will soon take home the Ballon d’Or.”
In 224 games with the Spanish powerhouses across various tournaments, Vinicius has scored 59 goals and provided 64 assists. With the Bernabeu team, he has won nine trophies, including the UEFA Champions League and two La Liga championships. With 61 points, the winger placed last in the Ballon d’Or standings the previous year.
