Man United to offload 2 senior players. According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have designated Bailly and Telles as players they must offload. The defensive pair, whose contracts only have one year left, spent the previous season on loan.
Bailly, 29, was on loan at Marseille in Ligue 1, where he experienced new injury problems. The Ivorian defender played in 23 matches across all competitions, contributing to six clean sheets for his team.
In the financing agreement with Bailly, there was an obligation to purchase clause on Igor Tudor’s side. He is now returning to Old Trafford because the conditions for that were not satisfied.
That might not last for very long, though, as La Liga team Celta Vigo and Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce are interested. He might be yours for as little as £2 million. It appears that Manchester United is willing to significantly reduce the £30 million they paid Villarreal for him in 2016.
Telles, 30, had a considerably bigger role for Los Nervionenses while on loan at Sevilla during the 2022–23 season. 38 times throughout various tournaments, the Brazilian left defender was active and contributed three assists.
Tyrell Malacia was acquired by Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag last summer, and the Dutch left-back has served as a smart rival for Luke Shaw. That makes it more difficult for Telles to join the Red Devils.
Telles transferred from Porto, a powerhouse in the Primeira Liga, to Old Trafford in 2020 for £15.4 million. He failed to contribute much for United, though, and was soon loaned away.
The Porto custodian may no longer be a part of the Red Devils’ plans:
In light of the uncertainty surrounding David de Gea’s future, Manchester United is searching for a replacement custodian this summer. At the end of the month, the Spanish goalkeeper’s contract at Old Trafford will expire.
Regardless of whether De Gea stays or leaves the club, it appears that Ten Hag is determined to bring in a new custodian. They are being compared to Diogo Costa of Porto and Andre Onana of Inter Milan.
Spanish outlet Porto is reportedly worried that the Red Devils have chosen to target Onana rather than Costa, according to Record. The Inter shot-stopper is well-known to Ten Hag because of his stint as his coach at former club Ajax in the Eredivisie.
According to reports, Manchester United has notified Onana’s agent that they want to make a bid for him soon. The 2022–23 season saw the Cameroonian in excellent form, recording 19 shutouts in 41 games in all competitions.
With 20 clean sheets in 41 appearances across competitions, Costa was equally as outstanding at Estadio do Dragao.
