PSG says they want Messi to stay till 2024 so he cannot join Barca. According to reports, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) wants to keep Lionel Messi on the team through the year 2024 to prevent him from returning to Barcelona. The Argentine’s contract with the Ligue 1 club has a one-season extension option. The forward’s current deal with PSG ends at the conclusion of the current campaign, and he is open to bids. He has not signed a new contract yet, but he is open to discussions with the Ligue 1 team.
According to a Marca story, PSG wants to make sure the attacker doesn’t go back to Barcelona in the summer. They want to keep him on the team for the upcoming season and will start the extra year if he declines to sign a new deal. The attacker has been in excellent form this season after a dismal previous campaign, registering 12 goals and 14 assists in 19 games across competitions.
After Lionel Messi’s contract at Barcelona could not be renewed, PSG acquired him. He had a disastrous first season, but he has performed well this year, scoring seven league goals, one more than he did the previous year.
In a 2017 interview with Sky Sports, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi stated that the club intends to negotiate a contract with Messi. He stated: “Definitely. With the national team, you can tell that he is quite happy. A player’s performance won’t be good for the national team if they aren’t happy. He did a great job for us this season, contributing to both the club and the national team with numerous goals and assists.”
Messi continued: “In light of this, we decided to sit down after the World Cup. However, all parties—our club’s side and his—are overjoyed, so we’ll chat more after the World Cup.”
The Argentina captain needs to return to Camp Nou so that Joan Laporta, the president of Barcelona, can bid him farewell. He said to CBS Sports: “Leo’s departure from Barcelona did not go well. It was a challenging moment. The club had to be prioritized over the greatest player in our history, so we had to make a choice. But I believe we need to start working right away to ensure that Messi ends his career with Barcelona cheering him on from every field. We’ll try our hardest to give him the happy ending he merits.” Inter Miami CF has reportedly also sent Messi a contract offer.
