PSG superstar Mbappe and Messi nominated for Ligue 1 awards. Both Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi, teammates at Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), have been nominated for the UNFP Ligue 1 ‘Player of the Year award for the 2022–23 campaign.
Along with Jonathan David of LOSC Lille Metropole and teammates Lois Openda and Seko Fofana of RC Lens, the list was announced by UNFP on their website. The past three awards have gone to Mbappe.
Due to the COVID-19 epidemic, the prize was deemed worthless for the 2019–20 season. This season, the French center-forward has maintained his strong form, scoring 26 goals and dishing out five assists in 31 league appearances.
In terms of goal contributions, Messi isn’t far behind him with 15 goals and as many assists in 29 Ligue 1 appearances. Openda, 23, has scored 19 goals in 35 Ligue 1 games to lead Lens’ title charge this season.
Fofana, on the other hand, has been the engine that has propelled Lens’s midfield to second place in the standings. After 35 games, they are six points behind PSG. The list is completed by David, who was mentioned in connection with a transfer to Real Madrid in the days preceding the 2023 January transfer window.
In 34 Ligue 1 appearances this season, the 23-year-old Canadian center-forward has 21 goals and four assists. Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon is conspicuously absent. The former Arsenal forward is ranked second in the league this season only one goal behind Mbappe.
With a victory in Ajaccio, Lionel Messi returns from suspension as Kylian Mbappe propels PSG closer to the crown:
For traveling to Saudi Arabia on May 1 without authorization, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) initially suspended Lionel Messi for two games.
In exchange for a public apology, the club removed the suspension early. The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was, therefore, able to play on May 13 against Ajaccio.
Messi and Kylian Mbappe opened the match for Les Parisiens at Parc des Princes, who won 5-0. The legendary player from Argentina played the entire 90 minutes without scoring or providing an assist, but Mbappe scored twice.
Messi’s future at PSG appears to be in doubt. He is anticipated to leave as a free agent in the summer, and Inter Miami and Barcelona are reportedly interested. A Saudi Arabian team that has not been named has extended an offer to the 35-year-old.
