PSG is in the process to replace Christophe Galtier. Jose Mourinho is considering joining PSG. According to RMC Sport, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is in discussions with Jose Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes about replacing Christophe Galtier this summer.
Galtier was hired as Les Parisiens’ new manager last summer with high expectations. It was believed that the tactician, who won Ligue 1 with LOSC Lille in 2020–21, would be the one to ultimately guide the Paris Saint-Germain giants to a UEFA Champions League triumph.
Galtier hasn’t exactly impressed everyone while he’s been at the Parc des Princes, though. Both the French Cup and the Champions League have been lost by PSG. Although the team leads Ligue 1 by six points, their record in the league has not been impressive, as they have suffered six defeats.
So, despite Galtier’s contract expiring in 2024, it is widely believed that the Parisians would release him at the end of the current campaign. The French heavyweights have reportedly made contact with a number of prospects and have already started the search for their new boss.
The aforementioned source claims that PSG football advisor Luis Campos has chosen AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho as his top choice. Since their earliest years in Portugal, the two had known one another.
The Mourinho team apparently denied any direct communication between the manager and Campos. The latter, though, is reportedly in negotiations with the tactician’s agent Mendes regarding a deal. Particularly notable players handled by Mendes in Paris include Danilo Pereira and Renato Sanches.
It’s important to note that the Portuguese strategist recently turned down an offer from Chelsea, his old employer. But according to the rumor, he’s willing to take over at Parc des Princes.
Since taking over the club in 2021, Mourinho has had success at Roma, and he recently guided the Italian powerhouses to UEFA Europa Conference League triumph. With the club’s meager resources, he apparently believes he can’t perform any better there.
The 60-year-old is seeking a club that can accommodate his goals as a result. In addition to PSG, he is reportedly open to going back to Real Madrid.
Owners of PSG may have the final say in hiring a new manager:
The PSG owners have always had the last say in all football-related matters. Those in Qatar chose to appoint Unai Emery and Thomas Tuchel as managers. This time around, it might be the same.
According to rumors, the owners have held preliminary discussions about hiring Julian Nagelsmann and Thiago Motta. Therefore, it is uncertain whether they will support Campos’ preference to employ Mourinho, who has a deal with Roma through 2024.
