Chelsea plans for £70 million move for Manchester United target. Following Mauricio Pochettino‘s enthusiastic endorsement, Chelsea is allegedly eager to join Manchester United in the hunt to sign Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan.
The appointment of the Argentine strategist as Chelsea’s upcoming long-term head coach is imminent. Martinez, a fellow countryman, is one of the top attackers in the world, according to Football Insider.
In 48 games this season in all competitions, the Argentine center striker has contributed nine assists in addition to 23 goals. There are no hiding Chelsea’s goal-scoring issues.
Only Wolverhampton Wanderers (29) have scored fewer goals for a team outside the relegation zone than they have in 33 league outings. Since arriving at Stamford Bridge from Barcelona in the summer of last year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hasn’t gelled.
The 33-year-old international from Gabon has scored just three goals in 22 outings this season across all competitions. Romelu Lukaku, who is attacking alongside Javi Martinez for Inter, will return to Stamford Bridge this summer after his loan period is through.
It is unclear if Chelsea will continue to put their faith in the Belgian international after this season. The 21-year-old Armando Broja is relatively inexperienced, while Kai Havertz is simply a temporary center-forward replacement.
Of course, Manchester United also needs a striker with experience. While Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani left the team last year without a permanent replacement being found, Wout Weghorst’s six-month loan from Burnley ends this summer.
One of the top forwards in Europe, Martinez, 25, was a member of the Argentina team that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Inter Milan is open to considering bids for the player, and to raise money this summer, they may decide to sell him for £70 million.
Former Chelsea center-back to be pursued by Manchester United:
Andreas Christensen, a former central defender for Chelsea, is supposedly a player Manchester United is interested in bringing back to the Premier League.
The international from Denmark joined Barcelona last summer after his contract at Stamford Bridge expired on a free transfer. Since then, he has been among the top players for the Blaugrana, appearing in 27 games this season across all competitions.
Regarding the 27-year-old’s performances, Barca wouldn’t have any complaints. Xavi Hernandez thinks highly of him and considers him one of Barcelona’s best recent acquisitions.
The Catalan team may have to consider bids for Christensen, though, due to their precarious financial situation. At the end of the season, he will have three years left on his contract and is reportedly valued at €70 million (£61.07 million).
At Manchester United, Erik ten Hag prefers Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez as starting center-backs, with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof serving as backups.
