Gary Neville criticizes Arsenal star for his opening goal. Gary Neville criticizes Arsenal star for his opening goal. On Sunday, May 14, Gary Neville, a pundit, criticized Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior for his involvement in Brighton & Hove Albion’s first goal at the Emirates.
The Seagulls took the lead in the Premier League match in the 51st minute thanks to Julio Enciso. Kiwior seems to have been stepped on by Evan Ferguson of Brighton. The play proceeded with the defender still down on the ground inside the penalty area. Enciso eventually located the net’s back.
Neville, though, objected to the Polish defender’s stance. According to the Daily Mail, Neville, who was in charge of the commentary, said: “Kiwior is hurt, but I don’t mean to minimize the fact that he was hurt… He collapses while still supporting his ankle, cutting Arsenal off in the middle of the box. He collapses. Can’t he just [stand up] now? I’m afraid to speak it.”
He added: “And I’m sure Roy [Keane] and Patrick [Viera], the guys in the studio, might be thinking about it and have a little more to say. If you are hurt, you are hurt. But don’t you have to just stand there as the center back and let the attack go?”
Then the Gunners let up two more late goals. Before Pervis Estupian scored in the sixth of the extra time, Deniz Undav scored in the 86th minute.
The team of Mikel Arteta has 81 points after 35 games and is four points behind league leaders Manchester City despite having played one extra game. By defeating Chelsea at home on May 21 in their upcoming game, the Cityzens can claim the championship.
Jakub Kiwior was criticized by a pundit for his behavior during the Arsenal vs. Brighton match:
Jakub Kiwior’s contribution to Brighton’s first goal was criticized by several analysts, including Gary Neville. Townsend agreed with Neville and insisted that Kiwior had to go on despite his problems.
Through The Boot Room, he stated: “Estupinan volleys it down the six-yard line while Enciso is merely standing in front of the custodian. The nature of the game is altered by a pass of 60 yards. When Kiwior’s boot is removed, you can’t stop there; you must continue.”
One can contend that the 23-year-old defender’s inexperience was to blame for the action. He moved to Arsenal from Spezia in the summer, but he has only played six times for the team since then.
Kiwior’s talent is clear, despite his blunder in the Brighton game. Arsenal will be hoping that he can eventually establish himself as the defensive core of their team.
