Mark Schwarzer claims the ‘brilliant’ Arsenal star been underestimated. Granit Xhaka of Arsenal has received praise from former Premier League custodian Mark Schwarzer for his outstanding performances this year. On Tuesday, May 2, at the cost of their London rivals Chelsea, the Gunners ended a four-game losing streak.
For the majority of the game, Arsenal completely outplayed the Blues, winning 3-1. Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, scored three goals, Gabriel Jesus added one, and Noni Madueke added one for the guests in the second half.
Mark Schwarzer praised Xhaka when talking about Mikel Arteta’s performance. The former Fulham goalie insisted that the Swiss national does not receive the recognition that is due. The Boot Room cited what he stated on the Football Daily Podcast as saying: “I also believe that Granit Xhaka’s performance cannot be understated. When you consider his entire career at Arsenal, including the early years when he had a rocky relationship with the supporters, I believe he was captain.”
Schwarzer also gave Xhaka credit for changing his club’s fortunes and re-establishing himself as an important member of the North London powerhouse.
He added: “He struggled with the pressure that comes along with that, and his play wasn’t very good. He was enormous today because of the way he’s changed things. He set up both of [Martin] Odegaard’s goals and overall, his discipline has much improved. He also works extremely hard. He’s been a huge player for Arsenal this year, in my opinion: “Xhaka has been a member of the Arsenal roster since 2016 when Arsene Wenger acquired him from Borussia Mönchengladbach for a reported £30-35 million.”
His performance has fluctuated over the years. After a fight with the fans, he experienced the lowest point of his Arsenal career and ultimately lost the armband.
Xhaka has done well to earn his reprieve and has performed admirably this season. In 43 games this season in all competitions, he has seven goals and seven assists to his credit.
After Chelsea’s 3-1 victory, Ian Wright was in awe of the “unbelievable” Arsenal player:
Following the 3-1 Premier League victory over Chelsea on Tuesday (May 2), Arsenal legend Ian Wright gushed about the Gunners’ captain Martin Odegaard.
The former Arsenal striker praised the Norwegian as the team’s greatest performer this season. On Tuesday, Odegaard scored twice against Chelsea to help Mikel Arteta’s team easily defeat Chelsea 3-1.
After the game, Wright waxed poetic about Odegaard and expressed his disbelief that Real Madrid let him go. He started Premier League Productions (via HITC): “I couldn’t believe we initially borrowed him from Real Madrid and then when he returned. His lineage, his abilities, and what he is capable of. the fact that he is currently captain, setting an excellent example, and contributing with so many goals. The man has been amazing.”
The previous assailant continued: “If I’m being completely honest, I’d say that he has been our player of the season. On that track was William Saliba. He was hurt, though. This season, Odegaard’s consistency for Arsenal has been simply fantastic for us.”
Odegaard has led his squad by example since being appointed captain at the beginning of the current season. This season, the captain of Norway has participated in 41 games across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and dishing out eight assists.
