Mikel Arteta claims they can win the Premier League title race. Despite Arsenal’s 4-1 loss to Manchester City, manager Mikel Arteta is bullish about his team’s chances in the Premier League title fight.
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, insisted that his team was still in the title chase despite losing 4-1 to Manchester City on Wednesday (April 26).
At the Etihad, goals from Kevin De Bruyne (2), John Stones, and Erling Haaland helped the Cityzens sail to victory. The Gunners, whose title defense suffered a severe setback, scored a consolation goal through Rob Holding.
Arsenal is now in first place in the league, although they are only two points ahead of Manchester City, who still has two games remaining. Despite this, Arteta felt optimistic about his team’s chances of winning the championship. Chris Wheatley quotes him as saying the following:
“It’s amazing that we are facing off against this Man City team. We won’t give up, we promise. We must acknowledge that we lost to a superior squad because that is the standard.
Against a formidable City team, Arteta’s team never appeared to have a chance of winning. They entered the Premier League campaign with a top-four finish as their primary goal.
However, the Gunners have pleasantly surprised many with their consistency this year and, up until three weeks ago, were considered favorites to win the league. But their chances of winning the title have begun to dwindle after three straight draws against Liverpool (2-2), West Ham United (2-2), and Southampton (3-3).
The next game for Arteta’s team is against Chelsea at the Emirates on May 2. Amid their title race slump, the Spanish coach will be looking for a response from his team.
Arsenal are said to as a class team by Kevin De Bruyne:
De Bruyne, a midfielder for Manchester City, scored two goals that were excellent and assisted another in the win over Arsenal. He was at the top of his game. In 41 games across tournaments, the Belgian’s season total now stands at seven goals and 26 assists.
De Bruyne, however, displayed modesty following the resounding victory over the Gunners at the Etihad. He spent time praising City’s competitors for the championship, telling BT Sport:
They are a top-notch team and challenging opponents. They were at their best today, and so were we.
Since 2015, Arsenal has failed to earn a point in their matchups with the City citizens, continuing their dismal record versus them. When attempting to contain De Bruyne and Haaland, who were relentless the entire game, Arteta’s defense seemed nervous.
The Gunners won’t remember this performance favorably, but they will acquire experience. With Guardiola’s incredible City at his disposal, Arteta has a youthful team that is capable of competing.
