Chelsea is interested in Dortmund’s goalkeeper Gregor Kobel. According to reports, Borussia Dortmund is aware of Chelsea’s interest in custodian Gregor Kobel, who is 25 years old. The Blues are keeping an eye on many shot-stoppers this summer, including the Swiss international.
According to a report in The Independent, Chelsea is looking to add a custodian before the upcoming campaign. Mauricio Pochettino, who will succeed Frank Lampard as the team’s manager, is said to have requested the club recruit a top custodian. Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy, Chelsea’s current alternatives in that area, haven’t impressed this year.
The Premier League’s Manchester United and Chelsea have both expressed interest in Kobel as a result of his strong performance for Dortmund this season.
The Bundesliga club is eager to extend Kobel a new deal and is aware of Chelsea and United’s interest in him. In the summer of 2026, Kobel’s current contract with Dortmund will end. In addition to Kobel, David Raya of Brentford, Roberto Sanchez of Brighton, Emi Martinez of Aston Villa, and Andre Onana of Inter Milan have all been mentioned in connection with Chelsea.
Chelsea was instructed to keep Edouard Mendy and sell Kepa Arrizabalaga:
Ben Foster, a former custodian for Watford FC, thinks Kepa Arrizabalaga has to be replaced by a long-term custodian because he is unreliable.
Foster posted the following on his YouTube channel in March, following Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Everton: “I don’t believe Kepa is the ideal candidate for the job, period. He isn’t, in my opinion, a long-term fix. At the end of the season, either Mendy will become healthy and rejoin the team, or they will need to go out and sign a player. By the way, they spent £70 million on Kepa and £25 million on Mendy, for a total of almost £100 million on goalkeepers.”
Glen Johnson, a former Liverpool full-back, has pushed Mauricio Pochettino to name Edouard Mendy as the club’s starting custodian for the upcoming season.
He informed Betfred that he thought the Senegalese could perform better: “You can see why Bayern Munich wants him, but Chelsea should do everything in their power to keep him since, in my opinion, he is their top player. He would, in my opinion, be a huge loss for Chèlsea. He is another player who appears to be struggling under the current upheaval at Chelsea, but when he first entered the Premier League and had solid support systems in place, he seemed to be among the best.”
Mendy took part in Saturday’s 2-2 Premier League tie between the Blues and Nottingham Forest. He committed a mistake that resulted in the opening goal at Stamford Bridge for the team in danger of relegation.
