Newcastle willing to sign Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella. According to reports, Newcastle United may recruit Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella before the start of the new campaign.
The Spaniard paid €55 million to move to Stamford Bridge last summer, but following a difficult season, it appears that value has dropped. He played for Chelsea, who placed 12th in the Premier League.
Ben Chilwell was typically Chelsea’s first-choice left-back, but Cucurella made up to 33 appearances across all competitions due to two hamstring ailments. He only managed two assists during that time and was mostly underwhelmed on both sides of the pitch.
Cucurella also frequently served as the central defender. Next season, Chilwell is anticipated to play left back, and according to reports, newly appointed Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino is willing to let the Spaniard leave.
Newcastle reportedly thinks they can recruit the 24-year-old for as little as €35 million, per the Mirror (via El Nacional). They now have Jamal Lewis, Matt Targett, and Dan Burn at left-back, but the Chelsea defender might be considered an improvement.
With Brighton & Hove Albion, Cucurella had a standout 2021–22 season, making 38 appearances in various competitions. While living in Barcelona’s La Masia for six years, he also had the opportunity to interact with some of the best athletes in the world.
Chilwell’s competition at Chelsea comes from Lewis Hall, who is rising through the ranks. All four of the Blues’ last Premier League games in May were started on the left wing by the incredibly flexible teenager. That was under Frank Lampard.
Arsenal advised Chelsea’s Kai Havertz not to move:
Jason Cundy, a former Chelsea defender, has advised Arsenal not to pursue Kai Havertz.
The German international, who was primarily utilized as a center-forward last season, had a difficult time. In 47 games across several competitions, he scored just nine goals.
This summer, the 24-year-old has been linked with a move to Arsenal, and Chelsea is apparently interested in selling him. The player still has two years left on his deal, therefore according to Metro, they are negotiating for a £60 million price tag.
Arsenal would be better off, in Cundy’s opinion, if they didn’t spend a lot of money to sign Havertz. He stated on TalkSPORT: “If I were an Arsenal supporter, I would be worried if he went missing. He can rapidly lose interest in games and lacks a little bit of passion, grit, and battle. I’m not convinced he’s the man you want if you’re in a fight… Additionally, I doubt that many Chelsea supporters are concerned about this transfer.”
Havertz’s final 11 club outings of the previous season saw him go without a goal or an assist.
