Xavi shares his meeting with Bayern Munich star. As rumors about a possible transfer to Camp Nou spread, Barcelona manager Xavi has disclosed conversations he had with Bayern Munich player Joshua Kimmich.
This summer, the Catalan powerhouses are looking for a replacement for Sergio Busquets in the midfield. When his contract with the La Liga giants expires at the end of June, the Spaniard has decided to go.
The Blaugrana have Kimmich on their radar as a potential transfer target. Xavi has acknowledged that Barcelona and Bayern could discuss the midfielder. The Spanish manager has since provided additional insight into a prospective transfer for the German to Camp Nou by describing conversations he had with the player in Qatar.
By way of Fabrizio Romano, he stated: “I spoke to him in Qatar; we ran into each other at an event, and he said he liked me. Barça move? It depends on him because he has a contract with Bayern; take Lewy as an example; he wanted to move there.”
The 28-year-old, who is worth €80 million, has two years left on his Bayern Munich contract. Since he arrived at the Allianz Arena in 2015, the German has been a constant in the Bavarian team. In 47 games this season in all competitions, he contributed 11 assists in addition to seven goals.
When Barcelona enticed Robert Lewandowski to Camp Nou last summer, they recently transacted business with the champions of the Bundesliga. The Catalan giants eventually got their man despite Der FCB’s best efforts to hang onto the storied striker.
Ronald Araujo is expected to lead Camp Nou in the future, according to Barcelona manager Xavi:
Ronald Araujo is expected to lead Barcelona in the future. Ronald Araujo has been praised by Barcelona manager Xavi for his potential to lead the Blaugrana in the future. He said (according to Diario Sport): “He will eventually lead Barcelona as captain, sooner or later. He naturally takes the lead. He brings it in. He already knows he’s the captain since I told him so.”
Araujo played a key role for Barca this season, making 31 appearances across all competitions and contributing to his team’s 18 shutouts. As Xavi’s team won the La Liga championship, he was a star performer and contributed to three goals.
The Catalan giants and the Uruguayan defender agreed to a new four-year contract last April. Now that he is committed to the Blaugrana through 2026, it is evident that Xavi believes he has the makings of a future captain of Barcelona.
