Bernardo Silva says Man City is not afraid for UCL semi-final. Despite Real Madrid’s track record in the competition, Manchester City star Bernardo Silva claims that the Cityzens are not concerned about playing them in the UEFA Champions League semi-final.
On Tuesday, May 9, Los Blancos welcome Manchester City to the Santiago Bernabeu for the opening leg of their Champions League semifinal. The victor will take on AC Milan or Inter Milan in the final in Turkey, which will be played at the Etihad Stadium on May 17.
Given that they haven’t suffered a setback since losing 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on February 5, Pep Guardiola and company enter the match with plenty of confidence. They will be hoping to capitalize on their current success and finally end their lengthy Champions League losing streak.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, will be adamant about spoiling the Cityzens’ celebration as they aim for their 15th Champions League victory. They also enter the match off a 2-1 victory against Osasuna in the Copa del Rey championship.
Silva has stated, though, that despite Los Blancos’ impressive European record, Manchester City are not afraid of them. The midfielder continued by saying that the Premier League’s powerhouses are eager to keep gaining confidence.
Silva remarked (via The Daily Mail): “We have a lot of respect for them, definitely, but no fear at all. Why is there a need for fear? Since we know they won the Champions League the previous season for a reason, we’ll aim to maintain the momentum we’ve developed over the past two months to arrive quite confident to defeat them.”
Many people think Real Madrid has an advantage against Manchester City because of their Champions League track record. Silva believes that the players on the pitch should be the center of attention.
“It’s not about the badge, and it never has been about the badge,” Silva continued. “The players who are on the pitch matter.
Madrid wouldn’t have any success without (Luka) Modric, (Toni) Kroos, Vinicius (Jr), and (Karim) Benzema — I could mention all of them — because the shirt doesn’t win matches by itself: “We’d be foolish to not appreciate them, but we have that ambition knowing that last year’s loss came under trying circumstances. We’ll try to do things differently this time.”
Who will win the enticing tie is still an open question.
Before the match against Manchester City, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti makes a forceful claim:
Carlo Ancelotti is certain that Real Madrid will benefit from the support of the home crowd when they play Manchester City on Tuesday, May 9.
He stated: “Our supporters at the Bernabeu will give us an advantage against City on Tuesday. We’ll play 11 vs 12.”
When the two teams faced off in the Champions League semi-final last year, the La Liga giants defeated the Cityzens 6-5 on aggregate in a dramatic match. They later won the title by defeating Liverpool 1-0 in the championship game.
