First time since 2018/19 season Bayer 04 Leverkusen seize a deserved point at the Olympiastadion with Robert Andrich’s 90th-minute goal that appeared in tie with Hertha as a match result. During the early exchanges of the game, neither Leverkusen nor Hertha Berlin created too many clear scoring opportunities, though the visitors looked slightly more comfortable when it came to pushing the lines forward.
Leverkusen thought they had bagged the opener midway through the first half, but the goal was ruled out after the referee determined the ball had previously gone out of play. As the game went on Herths improved and grabbed the first goal of the night just 3 minutes before the half time break when Stevan Jovetic controlled the ball inside the box and drilled a thunderous strike past Lukas Hradecky with absolute quality.
Hertha was more effective in the final meters and that was enough to give them the lead. In the second half the visitors looked sluggish and uncomfortable, and while Bayer never gave up on their attacking approach, they needed around 20 minutes to start creating some real dangerous chances – most notably through substitutes Nadiem Amiri and Karim Demirbay. Hertha were happy to play on the counter with Jovetic as their most dangerous player once again, even if often far too isolated upfront.
In the final minutes, Leverkusen made several changes and it seemed they were destined for defeat, but Robert Andrich had other ideas – the 27-year-old midfielder took advantage of a rebound after a free-kick, and slotted the ball from very close range in the 90th minute to earn a dramatic point.
As Hertha has now gone winless two matches in a row the 1-1 draw does little to help either side, while Leverkusen failed to sneak into the top-4 also extending their Bundesliga run without a victory to four matches; they are now 10 points behind the leading Bayern Munich.
