Former Tottenham star Serge Aurier shares a cheeky message. Serge Aurier, a former defender for Tottenham Hotspur, sent a humorous remark following Nottingham Forest’s victory over Arsenal on May 20.
At the City Ground in the Premier League, the Tricky Trees defeated the Gunners 1-0 thanks to a goal from Taiwo Awoniyi. Nottingham avoided relegation this year because of their victory.
As a result, Manchester City, who have now won the Premier League three times in a row, won the title away from Arsenal.
Serge Aurier, a right wingback for Nottingham Forest, wrote on his Instagram account after the game: “If we do not succeed. They won’t also be champs. My Spurs clan.”
Aurier joined Tottenham from Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, and he spent three years there before moving to Arsenal. He made 110 appearances for the team, contributing 17 assists and eight goals.
On Saturday, Aurier excelled in his matchup with the Gunners. He triumphed in each of his five ground battles and added four clearances, two tackles, and one interception to his stat line.
The Ivorian fullback moved to newly promoted Nottingham last summer on a free transfer. He has played 27 times for the team, helping them keep their Premier League status for the upcoming season.
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, discusses how the Premier League title chase ended:
Despite sitting at the top for 248 days of the season, Arsenal’s title defense came up short in recent weeks. A few weeks ago, they led Manchester City by eight points, but in the eight games that have followed, they have only won two.
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, was questioned about his team’s title chances after their defeat to Nottingham clinched the outcome of the league title. Through Arsenal.com, he stated: “This is a very sad day, and there are many challenging feelings. Naturally, given that we lost the match and the championship after ten and a half months of battling for it. I am aware that we created the illusion, enthusiasm, and belief that we could prevail in the end, but we failed to do so.”
He added: “Congratulations to Manchester City; they are the champions and rightfully so. We were unable to duplicate what they did for 38 games.”
“That’s it, and from my side, I apologize because we generated hope that the team could accomplish it, but in the end, they couldn’t, and that’s my fault.”
On Sunday, May 28, the North London team will play Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Emirates Stadium to close out the 2022–23 season.
